MERITAGE: A term that loosely refers to blended or proprietary wines in which no single variety of grape in the blend exceeds 75% of the wine. The strict definition of the term means, among other things, that it must be a blend of two or more Bordeaux varieties, and that production must be limited to 25,000 cases.
