Eric Texier St. Joseph Cotes du Rhone 2001

This wine had been calling since landing curbside last winter. Opened and allowed some time in the bottle, but not decanted, the nose is all about foreshadowing the palate. The components are distinct, yet make the sum more than the parts. Cigar ash, cherry, brown sugar, orange blossom, herbs, mint, coffee and smoked meats. It has a great attack of intense fruit. The wine has good length and edge to it. While I know to expect acidity in Texier’s wines even this surprised me. If Italians made Syrah regularly, this is what it would be like. A fetching wine. 13% alc. With pan seared strip steaks with a wine reduction and slice of saga blue. 06.13.09. Recommended.
