2017 Saxum Gratias

This was a bonus from Saxum to the mailing list. 42% Grenache, 25% Zinfandel, 18% Mataro, 14% Syrah, 1% Tempranillo. I like this wine, fun to drink and a very thoughtful gift from Justin. Now the reality check -- it ain't great. No reason it should be if we're honest. This is made from leftovers from blending other wines.

A big rush on the nose of plums and cherries. Smooth, bright fruit, cherries, raspberries, spice. Nothing complex here, simple, but nice. Fine tannins, bright acidity, good balance. Moderate length on the finish with red fruits. Quite nice and largely ready to go. For a short time it gets darker in the glass but that was followed quickly by an almost cloying character. A little of this goes a long way. The Grenache is out in front, but it still has an overripe Zin quality. I'd drink over the next 2 to 3 years. Swimming against the tide over on Cellar Tracker, but if this didn't have a Saxum label, we wouldn't pay so much attention to it. "B"

Oh, and the professional reviews on this are just stupid!
