We had these Syrahs last week at Pig+Fig:
1. Carlisle DCV Syrah (15.1%; 245 cs) 2006: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; rather toasty/oak/pencilly/smokey some blackberry/Syrah/spicy fairly complex quite lovely nose; lightly tart strong spicy/blackberry/Syrah/bit raspberry fairly pencilly/oak/bit smokey fairly complex flavor w/ modest smooth tannins; very long bit tannic/drying strong Syrah/blackberry/spicy some pencilly/smokey/oak rather complex finish w/ light gentle tannins; a really lovely pretty much fully-evolved Syrah w/ no signs of drying out. $30.75

Carlisle DCV Syrah (14.5%; 260 cs) 2007: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; slightly funky/earthy/ozone/pungent/metallic/reductive strong peppery/blackberry/Syrah strong toasty/oak rather complex bit strange nose; lightly tart bit strange/funky/ozone/WWII beacon/reduced some spicy/Syrah/blackberry/raspberry bit toasty/smokey/oak somewhat strange flavor w/ modest bit coarse tannins; very long some reductive/pungent/ozone some blackberry/Syrah/raspberry smokey/oak/toasty finish w/ light bit rustic/coarse tannins; a bit on the strange/atypical side for a Carlisle Syrah but not at all bad.. just a bit strange. $30.75

Carlisle RRV Syrah (14.1%; 500 cs) 2007: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; beautiful very smokey/toasty/pencilly/oak intense blackberry/Syrah/ripe/boysenberry rather spicy/peppery fairly complex nose; lightly tart very strong smokey/pencilly/oak/toasty very spicy intense blackberry/Syrah but RRV/peppery some complex flavor w/ modest bit bitey tannins; very long/lingering strong pencilly/smokey/oak intense blackberry/Syrah/RRV peppery bit complex finish w/ light tannins; a beautiful very complex fairly intense/peppery/Syrah that's pretty much mature & not likely to get much better; my favorite of these Syrahs. $23.25

Carlisle Syrah SonomaCnty (15.2%; 390 cs; RossiRanch/Papa'sBlock/SteinerVnyd; U/U; Drk: 2011-2017) 2009: Very dark color; very strong smokey/toasty/oak slight reductive/pungent intense blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry very spicy complex beautiful nose;fairly tart some pungent/reduced very intense blackberry/Syrah/ripe/peppery rather smokey/toasty/oak fairly complex flavor w/ slight tangy tannins; much like the RRV '07 but w/ a slight reductive character; a beautiful Syrah. $23.50

Carlisle Syrah DryCreekVlly (15.5%; 150 cs) 2009: Very dark color; not as intense rather bright/spicy/Syrah some pencilly/oak rather simpler fairly attractive nose; lightly tart bright/DCV/spicy/blackberry/raspberry some pencilly/oak bit simpler flavor w/ light bitey tannis; very long bright/spicy/raspberry/blackberry/Syrah finish w/ light tannins; a pleasant bit simple bright DCV Syrah that's not ging to get a whole lot better; a pleasant Syrah but just that. $37.00

1. These were a collection of older Carlisle generic Syrahs, as opposed to the vnyd-designate ones. They were in much better shape than I expected them to be. None were on the verge of drying out or collapsing.
