Marcarini Barolo Brunate 2001

14% / Imported by Empson, VA

Drank for a birth year occasion. It was disappointing. I like rustic wines and I think Marcarini is somewhat rustic but this was too rustic. This drank more like a Langhe nebbiolo instead. It did not get better or change over 2 days. Decanted for a few hours. A little harsh, unfocused and unbalanced without a lot of redeeming features. It did have some concentration and richness but that didn't make it a fun drink either. I was surprised as I've had very nice 1995 and 1998 versions of this wine. I thought they were a pretty consistent winery, year to year. Sad and this was my one and only bottle from this year.
