Finishing up my taxes, it seemed like a Forlorn-Hope was called for:
1. Forlorn-Hope Norgard CheninBlanc NorgardRanch/TalmageBench/Mendocino (47 cs; 14.3%; aged
20 mo. in neutral oak) Fairfiled 2011
: Med.gold color; strong pear/pear blossom/CB/floral rather honeyed/honeycomb slight earthy fairly complex somewhat exotic nose; bit soft fairly rich/lush some tangy/metallic/phenolic(?) earthy/honeycomb rather honeyed/pear/floral/pear blossom quite exotic rather complex slight tannic/phenolic flavor; very long fairly rich/bit soft slight tangy/metallic/sharp rather earthy/honeycomb slight metallic/phenolic/tannic some pear/CB/pear blossom/floral bit graham cracker quite exotic complex finish; no signs of oxidation but definitely not an older Loire CB; a rich/honeyed quite savory/saline rather exotic maybe even bizarre very atypical Calif CB; not strongly phenolic but seems to have a bit of skin-contact character; quite an interesting rendition of CB as befits Matt. $30.00

: Light gold slightly cloudy color; slight cider/phenolic rather fragrant/
floral/melony/CB/spicy slight earthy/pungent/trumpet valve oil delicate/pretty very attractive nose;
quite tart bit metallic/steely tangy/grapefruity/chalky light floral/spicy/melony/CB flavor; med.long
delicate/racy bright/melony/floral/CB slight earthy/chalky/flinty tangy/grapefruity finish; a very pretty/
elegant/delicate rendition of CB; not the minerality of Loire nor the usual tutti-fruity of many Calif
CBs; those nose suggests a skin-contact white but the palate has no phenolic/tannic character. $30.00

The wine has changed quite a lot and put on weight and a lot of honeyed character, not atypical of skin-contact whites. Interesting stuff.
