2010 Navarro Pinot Noir Deep End Blend

We drank the 2011 eight days ago and I picked the 2010 tonight to go with the first fresh wild caught sockeye salmon of the season. Beautiful deep red in color with just a bit of translucence at the edges. The nose has deep red fruit and just a hint of spice. The overwhelming impression on the palate is balance. Deep, vibrant fruit, dark cherry mixed with strawberries, hints of anise and thyme, savory. Firm, resolved tannins, bright acidity. A moderately long finish with a peppery note. Matched the salmon beautifully. Beautiful right now, but I can see it improving for the next four to five years and lasting another ten. It doesn't have the cache of some big name California pinots, but it is every bit their match (and the superior of many). "A"
