I think his analogy of terroir w/ walking thru a forest is particularly apt. He talks a lot about how various winemakers go about best expressing the terroir of a particular vnyd.

I like his conclusion:

Yoikes....I'm throwing up my hands in ever understanding terroir. Way above my pay-grade...I ain't a rocket scientist, after all.

It’s like the old Supreme Court comment on obscenity - I can’t define it but I know it when I see it.

Ironic. I live right on the Napa River. It runs pretty brown whenever there is rain. The authorities say it's erosion from vineyards, particularly new ones. The terroir is washing down to the bay
