Piero Busso Barbaresco Vigna Borgese 1989

14% Imported by Tastevin Wines, CA

I've bought a few recent Borgese and San Stunet Barbaresco from Piero Busso so when the 1989 came up for purchase, it became a chance to see how his wines might age.

Borgese is in the NW part of the township of Neive, as a subplot of the Albesani vineyard. The Borgese portion is next to San Stefano, which was cut out of Albesani (?).

"Rose, violet nose. Very yielding and intense and concentrated. Rich, concentrated and intense palate. Very acidic. Tannic, intense, rose and acidic. Will last forever. High quality. Really traditionally acidic and fruit-less (?). Excellent wine. Nose is almost rose bomb level. Spicy and persistent."

Really nice wine as my wife and I both commented on our first sip. Not the feminine, less intense barbaresco you sometimes hear about. I think this wine lacked a little individuality or character to be a great wine but no doubt that it was a real treat, nonetheless.

Really good with brined & roasted pheasant with home made pasta.
