Mauro Molino Barolo Vigna Conca 1996
14% Imported by Skurnik, NY / A Marc De Grazia Selection
Conca is in La Morra as part of the Annunziata "zone". Ratti also makes a Conca.
Bought on release and decanted 4+ hours
"Very aromatic - rose & strawberry - rose bomb almost. Fresh & acidic. Young & intense. A food wine. Gains depth & some complexity but a little simple - has good impact. Beautiful nose but the palate doesn't live up to it."
This is very fresh and young tasting with a great nose but the palate is out of balance or is lacking some key element. Perhaps related to the picking date. It wasn't really all that pleasant to drink. I don't think this will improve and probably always was like this. It tasted about the same the next day or worse. More in the Langhe nebbiolo category than Barolo. Very traditional seeming though. No sign of modern winemaking.
I haven't had much luck with the Marc De Grazia wines from 1996. A few have been wonderful but the rest not so much.
Thanks
