Newly minted Virginians, Bob and Carol Davis, were over for dinner (marinated flank steak on the grill) last night. They brought a Lagier-Meredith and we added one to go with it.
2015 Lagier Meredith Tribidrag
Tribidrag is the Croatian name for Zinfandel, the grape being native to that country as Carol Meredith demonstrated. I'll be honest, I was not overwhelmed by this bottle. On the other hand, Pat loved it. Raspberry on the nose. Smooth red fruited palate, cherry and raspberry, bit of spice. Smooth tannins, decent acidity, nice balance. But somehow it seemed too soft, too simple. I had no trouble drinking it, but nothing about it called for another glass. Moderate finish with red fruits. "B"
2000 Lagier Meredith Syrah
Lovely, mature wine. A nose of violets and red fruits. The palate is a beautifully blended mix of blueberry, roasted meat, anise, warm spice. Some pepper comes in on the mid-palate. The tannins are smooth and the acidity bright. Lovely balance. The finish has dark fruits and black pepper. Great now and for the next 3 to 4 years. "A"
