2008 Loring Pinot Noir Clos Pepe

Brian's Clos Pepe Pinots were Pat's favorite. This one is still a nice bottle although definitely showing its age. A deep candied cherry nose. The fruit has darkened on the palate from what I recall of the Clos Pepe in its youth. Black cherries, currants, anise. A little of the tell tale brown sugar element is starting to manifest. Nice balance among the tannins, acid and fruit. Finishes moderately long with dark fruits and a slight sour note. The 15.2% ABV is not noticeable until the very end of the finish. Nice enough now, but I'd drink these up. A "B+" but trending down.

Charlie: I have a variety of Loring 08s, some from the library sale he held about a year ago. Have not tried any, but it sounds like I should. Originally I drank Lorings very young, per Brian's advice. The ones with age have not impressed; probably will go back to drinking them young. He actually had some 99s in the library sale. That would have been interesting, but that's about all.

We did a Loring retrospective about 10-11 years ago. Mostly (I think) 04-06 and they were just OK. These were the first ones I let sit for a few years vs. drinking them early.
