1989 Brezza Barolo Cannubi

MUCH better than the last time I had this ( a couple of years ago ). What a pleasant surprise to have a wine improve so much in two years. Great with our pheasant with truffle oil.

Decanted 7 hours

A really wonderful wine. The mid-palate was quite "sweet" - more so than my memory serves me of other Piedmontese wine. More typical dryness on the finish. The "softness/elegance" of La Morra on the initial approach......the finish having more "serralunga" power. Dominant flavors of strawberry all over this wine. Nose of typical tar, brief hints of iron and mineral. The wine shifted to the dry/powerful finish as we drank it, away from the soft, "feminine" initial attack. Not the most complex or auromatic wine ever but not a "belly" wine either. Somewhere in-between

Probably will improve but drinking well now. Glad to have one more!

I'm impressed how each of the Barolo I've had recently seems to have a unique-ness of its own. I just haven't been running into the cookie-cutter wines here....maybe it's the price level but each wines has it's own surprises and wonderful identity.
