Domaine des Lises Crozes-Hermitage Rhone 2005

The nose is filled with meaty-goodness, both smoked and grilled. Tobo, blackberry and a very distinct iodine also liven up the nose. It smells like it is calling for food. On the palate, blackberry dominates the attack, but the iodine is always flying nearby as wingman. The mouthfeel is medium leaning light, yet the wine has just the “right” mouthfeel. A calculated rusticity shows a certain charm without being coarse or harsh on the finish. A wine of balance, it fills in the missing facets of the food and makes for a much more complete meal. A very clean wine. I wish I had a case of this. (Not fined, but lightly filtered.) 13% alc. With assorted blue cheeses, surryano ham, molé, olives (brined and otherwise) and crusty bread. 02.21.14. Recommended. A happy purchase - Thanks, Brad for turning me on to this!
