Ciao,

The 2011 "Fiulot" was on closeout for $11.99 so I decided to try one. Never knowing why a wine has been closed out means you are taking a chance on it, but luckily this bottle was just fine. It is just a very fine Barbera d'Asti that deserves the 90 point rating it got (can't remember whether it was WA or WS). It is loaded with fresh pure black cherry and blackberry fruit, just as the back label says (it is rare I agree with labels smile ), fine acidity, medium body, a food wine that went well over three nights with a variety of chicken and pork dishes. I am thinking about grabbing one or two more, unusual for me. Grade: B+/A-.

The 2011 Fontaleoni, Chianti Colli Senesi was also recently reduced from $14.99 to $8.99 so I grabbed one last night to try. It is a pretty wine, medium bodied, nice nose of cherry and spice, medium intensity, a nice deal at closeout price. Will know more tonight as I only drank about a third of the bottle. Grade: solid B.
