There's a light cloudiness to the liquid which is hard to see given how impenetrably opaque the black core is otherwise, brighter sunset red rims struggle to win ground against the darker core. The nose at first is mainly beef jerky, grill smoke and baked ham then broadens into black licorice, mint, spiced orange peel and a considerable amount of fig, date to blackberry, blueberry jam, has lost juiciness in favor of arch concentration of sugariness. More medium-bodied than full now, shows more bones and the acidity able to play a more active role which is unusual for the grape. Makes you pucker and go into a sugar coma at once, running the gamut from strawberry, raspberry through blueberry, plum onto fig, golden raisin and prune. Alcohol generally is tamed. Dark chocolate, caramel, coconut accents proportionate and woven in fully. Smoky residue lingers past the finish. At its utter apex.
