Maybe I'm over-speculating about the Badarina vineyard and this wine. The Wine Atlas of the Langhe by Slow Food says that this vineyard was only recently planted to nebbiolo. Because of the vineyard height and the inconsistent yields, dolcetto was instead grown here. The book was written in the mid 90's.
