Tried these two over the weekend:
1. Turley TheWhiteCoat Calif WW (13.8%; Roussanne from RattlesnakeRidgeVnyd/GrenacheBlanc from PesentiVnyd + Vermentino) StHelena 2015: Med.light gold color; rather fragrant honeysuckle/Rouss/GB/floral/peach/peach blossom slight chalky very attractive nose; soft fairly rich/lush strong Rouss/GB/honeysuckle/floral balanced attractive flavor; med.long soft floral/honeysuckle/Rouss quite4 pleasant finish; a pleasant expression of Rouss/GB but just that; would like more acidiry; a bit on the simple side but pleasant enough; doesn't hold a candle to most any TablasCreek white. $35.00
2. Jaffurs Viognier BienNacidoVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (13.5%; 2016: Med.light yellow color; fairly fragrant pear/peach/pear blossom/Viog pleasant nose; fairly tart/tangy bright pear/peach/pear blossom/Viog bit lean/tight flavor; med.long tart/tangy/lean pleasant pear/peach/Viog bit simple finish; way far away from DollyParton territory; doesn't have the powerful perfume of great Viog; more like a Pays d'Oc Viog; a bit lean/eviscerated and one the simple side; may put on weight w/ a yrs age. $28.00 (SFW&S)
A wee BloodyPulpit:
1, Two altogether pleasant Rhone whites but just that. I rather liked TheWhiteCoat as a departure of the fat/porky/corpulent style that the early versions showed.
I've always liked the Jaffurs Viog for its rich/lush style w/o straying into DollyParton territory. This one seemed a bit on the lean/pinched side, but may put on weight w/ a bit of age.
