2001 Carlisle Syrah Dry Creek Valley

With bone in pork chops and wild rice. Still a deep purple/red in color with just a bit of translucence at the edges. Cherry and blackberry scents on the nose. The tannins are still in evidence, providing structure but not overbearing. Fabulous fruit on the palate, blackberries and dark cherries and a smoky note, a bit of spice and licorice. Nice acidity. A long, long finish featuring dark fruit and cleansing acidity. At 17 years old, this is still quite alive and lovely. Not a hint of its 16.5% (!) alcohol. Mike's web site says drink by 2012, but this wine is nowhere near the end of its life in 2018. "A"
