2000 Alban Vineyards Grenache

Bottom Line Up Front: This is simply an awful wine. I know, I'm not supposed to say that about an Alban wine, particularly the Grenache. But that is just the truth. You have to be impressed by the intensity of the fruit on an 18 year old wine, but that's all it's got. And even that intense fruit isn't all that pleasant. It's hard, an assault on your palate. No secondary flavor at all. I can't even comment on the acidity and tannins since my palate is still numb. Nothing speaks of Grenache at all. The nose is reductive and it doesn't blow off very much with air. Frankly it gets worse with time. I got dropped from the Alban list years ago when I failed to order one time. I think they did me a favor. "D"
