Went for a hike yesterday in the mountains in a rather dry forest (for here). Twice I had the experience of a very distinct smell that transported me somewhere else - I had this intense vision all at once of porcini mushrooms, mushrooms dishes I make to accompany barolo dinners and the unmistakable smell of barolo itself - the forest floor / mushroom component that barolo has. It was so distinct that I thought I had a glass on the trail with me. It was amazing how fast it came on and how concrete the vision of the three product were. I've smelled the woods in wine but never wine in the woods. Really interesting.
