The clarity of the liquid is even evident in the mostly black core, emphasized further in the red rust to brick rims of noticeable breadth. Even today the nose dominated by oak, vanilla fudge, whipped cream, caramel and butterscotch, little bit of dill and green pepper in there too, leather and tar, the cherry, currant to Italian plum fruit scents seem more reticent than shot. Medium to full-bodied, smooth with some tannic reverb for texture. Here the sweetness of the blackberry, cassis to cherry fruit ample and evident from the start. Mixed white citrus, mutter of cedar and leather. The caramel, butterscotch and roasted marshmallows holds off to the finish and retronasal presence. It runs a little hot and there's little subtlety or intriguing nuance. But created with care and if you bought it with "Cali Cab" in mind you got what you paid for. Grapes sourced from Bella Vista Vineyard (Diamond Mountain District); Stagecoach Vineyard (Atlas Peak); Kerry's Vineyard (Calistoga); Elkington (Atlas Peak); Kate's Vineyard (Oak Knoll District).
