Domaine de Piaugier Gigondas Rhone 2010

Made from whole cluster and consisting of a GSM blend. Portions of the blend are aged in concrete tanks while other portions are aged in 2 year old barriques and yet a third portion is aged in new barriques. The color is a rich and deep purple; you wouldn’t necessarily guess this to be 8 years old. Like the color, the bouquet and palate are rich with layered black fruits, black pepper, blackberry, smoked meats, eucalyptus, smoke and coffee. The finish is a blend of iodine, mineral, and mocha. The brown sugar in the mid-palate again reflects a still youthful wine. The tannins are not yet fully resolved, leaving a bit of a drying effect, yet overall, this is a lovely, smooth and balanced tipple. Still no sediment from this wine which is surprising given the intensity of flavor. 14.5% alc. With cheeses and a seeded baguette. 08.11.18. Recommended.
