Raquillet, François

Mercurey 1er Cru
Les Veleys
Pinot Noir
Clean and shiny ruby-violet color, pure right through to the fully hued rims. Lost of crisp oak on the nose, close to dill, smoky and stony, roasty strawberry, cherry fruit, close to high-toned (not in a volatile way) and noticeably focused, going to take some time to unwind. Medium-bodied, sets itself firms and there's no lack of tannin and acidity. Perhaps too much as the raspberry, red cherry fruit has sappiness but not the kind of robustness which could battle the structure to the end. Mixed white citrus, touch of brine and that barbed oak, needs a decanting today but, to be fair, this is being consumed when there's a decent argument that it's in a shut down phase and/or slowly evolving into a different state.
