San Benito County, California
Lime Kiln Valley
Enz Vineyard
Light filminess throughout, glowing violet core with full cranberry red rims, appears more saturated from a distance. Taut nose of limestone and dusty earth, the raspberry to strawberry scents rocket through the nose, leaving room for a slowly expanding meatiness as well as lesser white citrus tones. Medium-bodied, the tannin is pretty fierce you are tempted to consider it already shut down for business. The red cherry, strawberry to apple fruit puts up a fight but at this moment no match for the tannin. Stony mid-palate slows it down to a crawl before a burst of spiciness and grapefruit wake up the finish. Air time does open it ever so slightly. Painfully hard to judge now, should be many years before another cork gets pulled.
