2016 Penfolds Bin 144 Chardonnay Yattarna

I had the first vintage of this wine, the 1995, and remember being not overwhelmed. I found a bottle in the cellar 7 years later and my how it had changed, just lovely. Now 21 years later, they have really upped their game. Lemon and crisp apples on the nose. On the palate, Granny Smith Apples, lemon zest, spice, a bit of oak (not out of bounds at all). Lovely acidity and good balance. Long, juicy finish with apples and sharp spice, some sweet oak. Needs 3 to 5 years or a vigorous decent to show best. Popped it in the refrigerator and came back to it 24 hours later. It picked up a distinct notch. Lemon/lime notes on the nose. Pineapple, green apples, lemon on the palate. The oak is well integrated and not obtrusive. Great balance, good acidity. Very long finish. Just lovely and it will get better. Give it 3 to 5 years or decant it. "A" with an upside.
