Tried this last night w/ our Pasta al Forno:
1. Matela Teroldego LeBonClimatVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (13.5%; www.BevelaWines.com) SantaMaria 2011: Very dark color w/ no bricking; rather toasty/Fr.oak some black cherry cola/Teroldego/blackberry/licorice slight peppery bit earthy interesting nose; quite tart rather hard/tannic fairly strong toasty/Fr.oak rather black cherry cola/licorice/Teroldego bit black pepper/earthy flavor w/ rather hard/chewey tannins; very long rather tart/hard/tannic some Teroldego/black cherry cola/licirice fairly toasty/Fr.oak finish w/ ample hard tannins; speaks of Teroldego but dominated by the Fr.oak and drying out a bit; not evolving as well as I expected but a pretty interesting red.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Bevela is the wnry of Kris Beverly and Marisa Matela. Marisa is the niece of JimClendenen and has taken over Jim's Teroldego project. He was the first to plant & produce Teroldego in Calif and his first ones were a lot like his Pinots. Elisabetta Foradoris they were not. But pretty interesting wines, nonetheless. They also make a few other wines and I pretty much like them across the board.
