Elio Grasso Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera 1999

14% A Chicago Wine Merchants Selection. Imported by NWS, IL

Bought on release. We drank this for a 21st birthday celebration and Xmas but there was something wrong with it and I did not enjoy it. It was incredibly dilute. You could sense a little typical flavors/smells in the background. It pulled together only slightly as we drank it. Opened and re-corked for several hours and decanted for one. My wife was quite happy with the wine but she hadn't had a glass of wine for two months so her opinion is discounted.

I'm guessing this was a corked bottle although it could have been me also. The wine just before, the Quinta do Vale Mećo Douro Meandro (2016?) was even more dilute and was undrinkable and unpleasant. I don't have another bottle of the Elio Grasso but do of the Meandro so in a couple years I'll drink another and see if it was me or the wine.

This continues the Xmas nebbiolo curse. As well, our stove completely died just as I was about to cook the meat for dinner. The vegetarian at the table didn't mind but we did!

Thanks
Fraser
