Stefano Farina Barbaresco 1989

13% Imported by Lugano Imports, CA

Who says everything in San Francisco is expensive? This was $19.99 recently. The only way it could have been better is if it was $19.89 instead!

I had the 1996 Barolo from this producer a number of years ago and really was impressed. This wasn't quite as good but was still very nice.

http://www.stefanofarinawines.com/ - it says that their current Barbaresco is from Tenuta San Quirico, purchased in 1995. So maybe not part of this wine. They also do Chianti.

Spicy, medium-bodied, some nice complexity, a little edge-y, some nice fruit and acidity. Its charms are not over obvious but reveal themselves with a bit of contemplation. Nicely balanced. A nice companion to dinner, drinking well at this age. It may have lacked a little concentration. I don't think it will get better but will last for awhile. Decanted several hours.

Ate with a cremini/black trumpet mushroom pizza with fontina cheese and pancetta, a nice choice with the wine.

Thanks
Fraser
