Tuscany, Italy
Toscana IGT
Purple bruise to black core, fully opaque, rust red to brick red rims, densely hued. Compact nose of cedar, ginger spice, menthol, and saddle leather, displays a burnt game edge as well, the plum, black currant fruit fairly mute and extra air time does little to tease out more richness. Full-bodied, tannic with a healthy dose of wood tannin as well, leaves a few splinters in your tongue with cedar, burnt buttered toast, vanilla bean and mocha accents. The fruit is candied like a lollipop with a core of cherry, raspberry and close to strawberry fruit. Leather, tobacco leaf, tar and clay elements anchor it in the palate, although at times it shows a cleansing burst which suggests good underlying acidity. Young now and possibly shut down, you feel the money put into crafting it. You have to wait a good long while to see if your money was well spent. 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc.
