Tried these two at dinner last night:
1. Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Feinherb Gelblack (12.0%; "Med.dry"; Q; A.P.Nr. 26026 010 17; MWImports/WhitePlains) Furst von Metternich/Johannisberg/Rheingau 2016: Light gold color; fairly fragrant floral/R/mango slight petrol/stony/flinty slight spicy fairly attractive nose; quite tart/tangy/bit steely fairly R/floral/mango/pineapple very slight petrol/stony/flinty rather dry/austere quite pleasant flavor; med.long quite tart/tangy/slight metallic some flinty/steely very slight petrol quite dry/austere light floral/mango/R finish; a rather pleasant dry/austere R more like a Mosel and not the usual richness of a Rheingau; a pleasant enough R but a bit on the pricey side; can do better w/ a Mosel in the $20 price range. $32.00 (AV)

LesHexagonales PinotNoir Vin de Pays du Val de Loire (12.5%; Jon-David Headrick Slctns) Jean Merieau 2015: Med.light color; quite fragrant PN/cherry/violets light earthy/dusty light pencilly/oak lightly spicy/cinammon very attractive/delicate nose; bit tart/tangy bright cherry/PN/floral/violets slight earthy/loamy light pencilly oak flavor w/ light gentle tannins; very long bit tart/tangy bright/cherry/PN/violets light earthy/loamy/dusty finish w/ light smooth tannins; quite a pretty expression of Loire PN at a great price point; lovely vin de soif. $17.00 (AV)

1. SchlossJohannisberg: It's been quite a few yrs since I done see'd a SchlossJohannisberg on the retail shelf, so thought I'd give it a shot. Fraid to ask the price for a Pradicatswein.

2. I shared the Pinot w/ PaulWhalen, a long-time friend who was recently awarded the LosAlamos Medal for his work in weapons design since 1956. Paul's a big RedBurg fan and has a cellar loaded w/ Burg GC's that he's authorized me to select from. He liked this Loire Pinot quite a lot.
